Here's my take on the history of computers and of course, the games that come with them. It's odd, even in my short lifespan there's already these leaps in terms of technology and the forms of entertainment that are being born as a result. You'll probably laugh at this but remember, I'm only eighteen. I remember when I was younger around like, ten years ago. I was really into Halo 2. Me and my Dad would play it all the time. And then one day, he showed me this gif of Gears of war and it just looked incredible. Halo and Gears weren't released that far apart. It's rather impressive that this game could look so good and get to look so good in such a short space of time. Even within it's company's previous projects like Unreal. So how the bloody hell did this happen.
If you scout around a bit, ask about the first ever video game. Everything points to Tennis for two back in 1958 which is a tennis game for two persons, clearly. But they're all a bunch of liars cause the first video game was OXO on the EDSAC computer back in 1952. It was essentially just noughts and crosses which is obviously a game prior to OXO. But it was the first digital graphic game to run on a computer. And the computer it ran on, the EDSAC which was this giant calculator. I mean, just look at it. Its absurd that the only games it's running are noughts and crosses, when my phone can play minecraft. Everything has become a lot smaller.

Going back to Tennis for two. At the time, the creator William Higinbotham didn't even consider his creation a game, just a tech demo essentially. Showing off his new graphics card. But then to what point do we define a game? The purpose of a game when I play it is to escape from this reality. I want to go to an underwater city and kill it's inhabitants. I don't want to go outside and play, I'm lazy and socially inept. I won't even read. So for me, a video game is the absolute essence of entertainment. That's all it is; something that takes you away from here.

I keep going off on this personal tangent, I know. More computers and games to come following a few significant leaps in technology. With a little less personal input so as I don't bore you with my inner ramblings.
